How to Migrate Your Framer Site into Relume Publish
By the end of this doc, you'll be able to:
- Understand how the Relume Publish MCP and Framer MCP work together to move your site
- Connect both to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor
- Have your AI tool rebuild your Framer pages, styles and CMS content in Relume Publish
- Redirect your old Framer URLs and move your domain to Relume
Overview
You don't have to rebuild your Framer site by hand. Your AI tool reads your Framer project through Framer MCP, then builds the site in Relume Publish through the Relume Publish MCP. An MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a connection that lets an AI tool read and change another app on your behalf.
Because the AI reads your Framer project directly, it can carry over your pages, copy, colours, fonts and CMS collections without any exports. You review the result in Relume, then switch your domain over when you're happy.
Keep your Framer site plan active until the very end. Your visitors keep seeing your Framer site until your domain points to Relume.
Before You Begin
- A paid Relume plan with access to Relume Publish. Free plans and free trials don't include the MCP.
- A paid Launch plan on your Relume site, which you need for your own domain and for redirects.
- A Framer account with edit access to the project you're moving.
- Claude (on the web, the desktop app or Claude Code), ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor.
- The full link to your Framer project, copied from the address bar in Framer.
- Access to wherever your domain's DNS is managed.
Connect Both MCPs to Your AI Tool
You only do this once. Each MCP asks you to sign in to its own account: Relume for the Relume Publish MCP, and Framer for Framer MCP.
Claude
- Go to Customize, then Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector.
- Enter Relume Publish as the name.
- Paste
https://relume-publish-mcp.relume.io/mcpinto the URL field. - Click Add, then Connect.
- Sign in to your Relume account in the window that opens.
- Open
https://claude.ai/directory/framerand click Connect to Claude. - Sign in to Framer and approve the connection.
You're done when both connectors show Connected.
ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor
Follow How to connect the Relume Publish MCP for your tool, then add Framer MCP the same way with the URL https://mcp.framer.com/mcp. In ChatGPT, you can instead search for Framer on the Plugins page and add the Framer plugin.
Save What the AI Can't Read
Framer MCP reads your project, not your site settings or anything stored outside Framer. Save these before you start:
- Redirects: go to Site Settings > Hosting > Redirects in Framer and copy them down.
- Form submissions: Framer doesn't store submissions. They're wherever your forms sent them, such as your email inbox, a Google Sheet or another tool.
- Tracking code: copy any analytics or pixel code from your site settings. Framer Analytics history doesn't come across.
Rebuild Your Site in Relume Publish
Start with one page, check it, then ask for the rest. It's much quicker to correct one page than a whole site.
- Start a new chat in your AI tool.
- Paste a prompt that includes your Framer project link, for example:
Read my Framer project [Framer link]. Create a new Relume Publish project from it, carry over my colours, fonts and logo into the style guide, then rebuild the home page section by section with the same copy and images. - Allow the tool to use Framer and Relume Publish when it asks.
- Open the link to your new Relume project that the AI gives you.
- Check the style guide and the home page on desktop, tablet and phone.
- Ask for any fixes, then ask it to rebuild the rest of your pages in the same project.
Tip: Ask the AI to list every page in your Framer project first, then check them off as it builds. That way nothing gets missed.
Bring Your CMS Content Across
Once the pages are done, ask the AI to move your CMS content, for example: Recreate each of my Framer CMS collections in Relume CMS and copy every item across, including images.
Check a few items in the CMS panel in Relume before you publish.
Rebuild What Doesn't Come Across
- Animations and effects: ask the AI to recreate the ones you need, or adjust them in Relume.
- Code components and overrides: these are custom React code, so rebuild the feature in Relume or embed it with custom code.
- Forms: ask the AI to add Relume forms to your pages. Submissions arrive in Relume.
- Other languages: rebuild translated pages as separate pages.
Redirect Your Old URLs
If any page addresses change in Relume, a redirect sends anyone using an old link to the new page, and tells search engines the page has moved.
Ask the AI to compare your Framer paths with your new Relume pages and add a redirect for each one that changed. Paste in the redirects you copied from Framer and ask it to add those too, for example: Add these redirects to my Relume project: /articles/my-first-post to /blog/my-first-post.
Redirects go live when you publish your site.
Note: Relume redirects match one exact path, so add one per old URL. Framer's wildcard redirects (with *) need replacing with individual ones. A site can have up to 500 redirects.Publish and Move Your Domain to Relume
When you're happy with the site, ask the AI to publish it, or click Publish in the top-right corner in Relume.
Framer doesn't sell domains, so your domain lives with a registrar. If you claimed a free domain through Framer, it's registered at Hover, so make these changes in your Hover account.
- In Relume, go to Site settings > Domains, click + Connect domain, choose Connect a domain, and follow the steps. Relume shows the records your domain needs.
- At your registrar, delete the records that point to Framer: the A records for
@and the CNAME forwwwtosites.framer.app. - Add Relume's records in their place.
Warning: Leave your email records (MX and email TXT records) in place, or your email stops working.
Cancel Your Framer Plan
Wait until your domain shows Connected in Relume and your site loads from Relume. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours.
- In Framer, remove your domain under Site Settings > Hosting > Domains. Deleting or archiving a project doesn't release its domain.
- Open your workspace settings and click Billing.
- Click the ... menu next to your site, then Cancel Plan.
Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period, then the site moves to Framer's free plan without your custom domain.
Tips & Best Practices
Tip: Give the AI the full Framer project link, not the project name. It finds the right project faster and won't mix it up with another one.
Tip: Reading your Framer project doesn't change it, so you can try again as often as you like.
Tip: If a change in Relume isn't what you wanted, ask the AI to undo it. Every change it makes is saved as a snapshot you can roll back to.
