How to Generate and Edit a Sitemap with Relume Publish

By the end of this doc, you'll be able to:

  1. Add project context so Relume's AI can build an accurate brief.
  2. Review and update the brief that guides your sitemap.
  3. Generate a sitemap, starting with your homepage.
  4. Generate the rest of your pages when you're ready.
  5. Edit pages and sections to shape your site's structure.

Before You Begin

Before getting started, make sure you have:

  • Any project material you already have, such as a written brief, meeting notes, brand images, or the URL of an existing site.

What is a Sitemap?

A sitemap is a map of every page your website needs, plus the sections that go on each page. In Relume Publish, AI builds your sitemap from your project brief, so the structure reflects your goals from the start.

Starting with a sitemap helps you scope a project and organise your content before you design anything.

Step 1: Add Your Project Context

  1. Create a new project in Relume Publish.
  2. On the first screen, add your context. You can paste text, URLs, upload documents, or add images.
Add as much or as little context as you like, such as client call notes, brand guidelines or competitor examples. You can always add more to your brief later.

Step 2: Review Your Brief

The AI turns your context into a brief, which becomes the source of truth for your project. It refers back to the brief every time it makes a decision, including when it builds your sitemap.

  1. Open the brief overview doc to check the AI's summary of your project.
  2. Open each supporting doc, such as brand visuals or target audience, to check the details.
  3. Edit any supporting doc that needs correcting. These are Markdown files (plain text files with simple formatting), so you can change them directly.
  4. Add your own docs if you want the AI to refer to extra information.
Get your brief right before you generate. Updating the brief is quicker than fixing a sitemap built on the wrong information.

Step 3: Generate Your Sitemap

  1. Move to the Sitemap tab once you're happy with your brief.
  2. Wait while the AI creates your sitemap. The chat panel explains each decision as it goes, including how it's following your brief.
  3. Review your homepage. The AI adds all the homepage sections first, then pauses.
  4. Ask the AI in the chat panel to generate the remaining pages. It builds out sections for the rest of your site.
The AI intentionally pauses after generating the homepage. You get to check the direction before it builds everything else, so you're always in control.

Step 4: Edit Your Sitemap

Once your sitemap is generated, you can make changes before you move on to the wireframes.

Edit pages

  • Rename a page: Click the page, then edit the Page name field in the panel on the right.
  • Edit the meta title and description: Click the page, then edit the Title and Description fields under Meta in the panel on the right.

Edit sections

  • Rename a section: Click the section, then edit the Name field in the panel on the right.
  • Add a section: Hover over a section, then click the + button. The new section appears directly below it.
  • Rearrange sections: Drag a section by its handle to a new spot.
  • Colour-code a section: Click the section, then choose a colour from the Tagging dropdown on the right. Colours help you organise and scan your sitemap, and they don't change your published site.

Edit with AI

You can also ask the AI to make changes for you in the chat panel. For example, type Add a Pricing page with a comparison table and FAQ section.
